DESCRIPTION:First Presbyterian Church is proud to be involved with the Keep Omaha Beautiful Adopt-A-Park program. The church has adopted Turner Park\, our neighbor east of us at 3oth and Farnam Streets. DESCRIPTION:This mission is organized through World Vision.  This is a mission that the youth of First Presbyterian Church participate in every year.  This year the will fast for 30 hours in recognition of all the people of the world experiencing hunger!  We would like to encourage YOU to fast along with us this year starting at noon on Friday\, March 24th through 6:00 PM on Saturday\, March 25th.  The youth will only drink fluids. \nIn addition to a lock-in\, mission work\, and communion to break their fast\, the youth will also be collecting donations.  You can send any donations directly to the church office or contact a youth group member.  Please indicate “30 Hour Famine” on your donation.  All proceeds will go toward a worthy charity.  Thank you for your prayers and donations.

DESCRIPTION:YOU are invited to attend First Presbyterian Church during the 2017 Lenten Season.  It will begin on Wednesday\, March 1 with Ash Wednesday.  A free-will offering meal will be served beginning at 5:45 pm until 6:25 pm.  Then at 6:30 pm our Ash Wednesday service will begin.  You may attend the meal or just come for the service. \nThis is a special service as we receive a cross of ashes on our foreheads from our pastors\, a brief message is given\, communion is served to all those who believe in God\, and then the cross is cleaned off by our pastors signifying the forgiveness of our sins through the dying and rising of Jesus from the dead. \nYou are encouraged to attend our services as they are family friendly\, and we offer many activities during this season or the next 40 days until Easter.  After Ash Wednesday\, a Lenten Service  at 6:30 pm will happen every Wednesday until Holy Week\, which is the week preceding Easter and the last week of Lent.  See you on Wednesdays!

DESCRIPTION:You are invited to attend the installation of our senior pastor\, Dr. Jonathan Sloan\, as Moderator of the Presbytery of Missouri River Valley.  This is an honor for our senior pastor.   He will preside over all meetings of the Presbytery\, an administrative body representing all 47 congregations in the Missouri River Valley location of Omaha and Southwestern Iowa. \nThe date of his installation is Saturday\, February 4 at First Presbyterian Church of Omaha\, 34th and Farnam Streets.  The time of the installation will be during the afternoon service.  Please join us during this installation of Pastor Jon.

SUMMARY:Kirkin' O' the Tartan Worship Service
DESCRIPTION:First Presbyterian Church will celebrate its Scottish heritage on Sunday\, January 29 at 10:30 a.m. This celebration will include Scottish music\, a bagpipe\, banners\, a beadle\, Scottish attire and following the worship service\, a Ceilidh (a Scottish happening) with shortbread and the Scottish Country Dancers.  A beadle\, according to the New Oxford American Dictionary\, is a ceremonial Scottish officer of the church who assists the minister.  In our church\, he/she has the honor of carrying in their family Bible which will be used during the service.  If you attend this worship service you may also have the opportunity\, if you want\, to do some Scottish dancing in our fellowship hall.  It is a service of celebration and remembrance. \nAll Scots are asked to bring a piece of their clan tartan to be blessed. You may also bring something that is important to you or your family to be blessed as well.  Whatever your heritage\, however\, everyone is encouraged to wear something plaid\, but it is not required. Also bring your Scottish friends! You are invited to come to church on January 29\, and be Scottish\, even if you aren’t\, for 90 minutes.  Please join us!

DESCRIPTION:You\, your family and friends are invited to the most beautiful evening at First Presbyterian Church – our Christmas Eve Candlelight Service.  On Saturday\, December 24\, the evening begins at 4:30 pm with a music prelude which includes vocal and musical selections by members of our church. Then\, at 5:00 pm\, the most beautiful service of the year\, our candlelight Christmas Eve service begins.  It includes music from our Chancel Choir\, this year a sermon titled “The Gift of Light” which is one of the gifts of Christmas\, and then the beautiful closing of each person lighting their candle with the church lights off.  This is all done to the singing of “Silent Night.”  Does this author sound biased?  Yes\, but this is beautiful!!  You need to be here!  You won’t regret it!  Merry Christmas\, everyone!
