September 24 2017 Sermon bulletin cover Life is Christ

Life is… Christ

Dr. Jennifer Blake gives a sermon about the Christian Life, based on Philippians 1:21-30 (link).

*Call to Worship
If we truly live and walk as Christ desires;
then life is a pleasurable journey which leads us to eternity.
If we truly love and believe as Christ desires;
then death is the joyful path which brings us to the Lord.
We are called to live a life of service to others in the name of Jesus; to live for Him and to each other. We are called to die to sin and to one day be gathered together with the Lord.
Let us worship God!

*Prayer of Confession
Dear Lord, sometimes we see life as a difficult challenge that we are unable to handle; but as hard as life may be, we fear death for ourselves and our loved ones. We seek ways to fill our lives with happiness, instead of finding joy that only You can give. We curse death instead of Praising you for eternal life in Your presence. Help us to see life as a gift given to us to learn to grow, to bless and be blessed. Help us to see death as a reward for living a life dedicated to You, to praise the One who saves, for saving us…

*Assurance of Pardon
Jesus knew His life would be difficult and His death would be painful; but in dying He not only escaped His suffering, but He saved us from eternal pain through His forgiveness and the promise of Heaven.
Thanks be to God!

I AM: The Way, the Truth and the Life

Rev. Dr. Jennifer Blake continues a 7 week series on “I AM” statements made by Jesus. The 6th sermon is based on John 14:1-7 (link).

Call to Worship
As we gather this morning, be confident that the Lord is with You;
He has called us, that we may be where He is!
Jesus is the path that leads to God;
He is the certainty that leads to God.
Jesus came as the way, the truth and the life to protect us, to lead us and to comfort us always.
Let us worship God!

Prayer of Confession
Dear Lord, we struggle in our lives with doubt, loneliness and fear of the unknown. We look to other sources to answer hard questions, to justify our actions and to seek comfort. Help us to remember that You alone are the source of all our needs; You guide us on the path that leads to joy; You teach us the real truth of life and death; You shine upon us and our lives…

Assurance of pardon
Jesus tells us He wants to be with us always; He wants to comfort us; He promises that with Him all our sins will be forgiven and His mercy will never cease.
Thanks be to God!

John 14:1-7

Jesus the Way to the Father
14 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And you know the way to the place where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Reformation #6: To the Glory of God Alone

Prayer of Confession
Dear God, we begin each day determined to live as You command; but we fall short. We allow petty annoyances, deeply rooted prejudices, and displaced anger to dictate our words and actions. Our path once paved with good intentions quickly became a series of bumps and potholes, then when we temporarily got back to smooth surfaces we look to ourselves with boastful pride instead of looking to You with praise and thanksgiving. Help us to live in a way that truly reflects You, Your love, Your grace, and Your glory. Help us to be a true reflection of You no matter what our road conditions may be.

Dr. Jennifer Blake gives the final sermon in our series about the reformation. The sixth in the series, To the Glory of God Alone (Soli Deo Gloria), is based on 1 Peter 4:8-11.

Adventure is Calling

Based on Matthew 4:12-18, Rev. Jennifer Blake gives a sermon about becoming disciples of Jesus, about answering the call of our faith. Will you drop it all and follow him as the first disciples did, or will you continue your current path with an increased sharing of the Good News though your words and deeds. From our smallest actions to our biggest, we are called to a specific Way. The Lord is calling, how will you respond?
