Prayer of Confession
Almighty God, we struggle with being witnesses to our faith. One small voice amid many often gets silenced. We know in our hearts what is right and necessary, but doubt that our actions really make a difference. We see You as a proud parent, pleased when we use Your guidance to be light in a dark world; but wonder if You notice our faint glimmering against Your own radiance. Help us to realize that the true reward of our faith is the path to You, a reward we can scarcely imagine…
Based on Matthew 10:40-42, Dr. Jonathan Sloan gives a sermon about the reward we receive by welcoming and receiving others.
Matthew 10:40-42 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
“Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.”
