*Call to Worship

Leader:     As we gather this morning, let us seek goodness;

People:    the goodness given to us through our faith.

Leader:     Let us help each other as we strive to follow Jesus,

People:    and to keep each other on the righteous path!

Leader:     It is easier to stumble and fall when trying to navigate on our own.  Let us

draw strength from each other to remain upright and faithful.

ALL:        Let us worship and praise God!

*Prayer of Confession (Unison)

Dear Lord, You give us those things needed to be free from temptation, but we question the knowledge we learn from the Bible.  You give us faith, and we become doubters.  You give us goodness and we let evil into our lives.  You give us love and we learn to hate.  Help us to always follow You, to keep our eyes upon You and to keep the world’s bad influences away from Your realm of love and purity.…(Silent time of prayer)

*Assurance of Pardon

Leader:     Jesus forgives us even when we fall, His mercy leads us out of our past sin

and into the light of His kingdom.

      ALL:          Thanks be to God!

* The Gloria Patri – Hymn Tune, 581

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen.

Message        “Growing in Faith:  Virtue”           Dr. Sloan

2 Peter 1:4-11

4 Thus he has given us, through these things, his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of lust, and may become participants of the divine nature. 5 For this very reason, you must make every effort to support your faith with goodness, and goodness with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with endurance, and endurance with godliness, 7 and godliness with mutual affection, and mutual affection with love. 8 For if these things are yours and are increasing among you, they keep you from being ineffective and unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For anyone who lacks these things is short-sighted and blind, and is forgetful of the cleansing of past sins. 10 Therefore, brothers and sisters, be all the more eager to confirm your call and election, for if you do this, you will never stumble. 11 For in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for you.

Hymn #707                                                                   “Take Thou Our Minds, Dear Lord”

Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer (Unison)

       Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come,

       thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily

       bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not

       into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the

       power and the glory, forever. Amen.
