Dr. Jonathan Sloan finishes a 7 week series on “I AM” statements made by Jesus. The final sermon is based on John 11:17-26 (link).
Call to Worship
Just as we come to Jesus today, He comes to us every day;
He comes to us in our joys, our pains and in our sorrows!
Jesus promises us life, and life ever after;
He is the Resurrection and the Life, we need only to believe!
Jesus promises us not just life, but abundant life; not only hope, but eternal hope; not just a future, but an eternity.
Let us worship God!
Prayer of Confession
Dear Lord, we endure so much pain as loved ones suffer and die; we fear the end of our own lives; we are afraid of what we cannot see, and that of which we have no proof. We seek understanding and answers that diminish Your abilities and Your promises. Help us to believe that You have gone before us; that You are preparing a place for us and that in You we have eternal life because You are the Resurrection and the Life…
Assurance of Pardon
Jesus suffered and died on the cross in order to give us everlasting life. He bore our sins and gave us mercy and forgiveness, now, always and forever.
Thanks be to God!
Jesus the Resurrection and the Life
17 When Jesus arrived, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days. 18 Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, some two miles away, 19 and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them about their brother. 20 When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, while Mary stayed at home. 21 Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask of him.” 23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
