Call to Worship                                                                                                       AJ Baratta

Leader:     As we gather today, we look to God for help, for guidance;

People:    we ask for love and patience.

Leader:     We need God every day and in every circumstance,

People:    we simply must pray and ask for God to be with us!

       Leader:     God has amazing plans for us, more than we can or are too frightened to

imagine.  Don’t be afraid, God’s abilities are greater than our fears.

ALL:        Let us worship God!

*Hymn                                            “Chain Breaker”                          Williams, Smith and Fields

*Prayer of Confession (Unison)

       Dear Lord, we put on brave faces as we walk our journeys, frightened of the unknown destinations.  Help us to follow more closely and fear less.  We know Your love but we question our worthiness.  Listen as we ask for Your care more and our doubt less.  We talk of Your power and majesty but are too timid to ask You to use Your influence for our sakes.  Hear us as we bring You our desires more and our struggles less.  We often go to You with prayers for others while questioning the validity of their needs. Teach us to reach out to You more and judge others less.  Remind us that without You we are less, but with You we are more and can do more than we can imagine…(Silent time of prayer)

*Assurance of Pardon

Leader:     Jesus hears us and desires us to come to the cross with our needs.  He does not turn from those who turn to Him.  We are created and called to ask, to cry out, and we will be answered with mercy and forgiveness.

ALL:           Thanks be to God!

*The Gloria Patri – Hymn Tune, 581

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen.

Message        “Made for More:  Prayer”         Dr. Jennifer Blake

Philippians 4:4-9                                             Pew Bible pg. 955

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. 6 Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.
