WE GATHER TO PRAISE and SERVE GOD

Prelude:
“Solace”                          B Greer
“He Hideth My Soul”               B Greer

Welcome

Call to Worship                                              AJ Baratta

Leader:   We gather this morning as servants of God;

People:  called to care for and minister to each other.

Leader:   As we strive to be more like the Lord,

People:  we seek ways to help and encourage

       others.

Leader:   Today and every day we find ourselves in the

world, surrounded by the lost and broken.  God asks us

to be servants, preparing for the Lord’s return by

serving those around us.

ALL:      Let us worship God as we serve others.

Hymn                      “Oh My Soul”

Prayer of Confession (Unison)

Dear Lord, You call us to reach out to others,

but we don’t always answer when You knock.

You expect us to serve as needed, when needed, yet we want to pick and choose who we help, but we aren’t always ready.  Help us to see the need as we keep our lamps burning.  Help us to listen to the longings without finding excuses.  Help us to keep watch for the needs of others and for Your return…

(Silent time of prayer)

Assurance of Pardon

Leader:  God’s grace extends to all who believe.  It is not restricted, but freely given to both the poor in possessions and the poor in spirit. No one deserves God’s mercy, but we all receive it.

ALL:      Thanks be to God!

Children’s Message

WE HEAR GOD’S WORD

Message      “Service”           Dr. Jonathan Sloan

Luke 12:35-40

Watchful Slaves
35 “Be dressed for action and have your lamps lit; 36 be like those who are waiting for their master to return from the wedding banquet, so that they may open the door for him as soon as he comes and knocks. 37 Blessed are those slaves whom the master finds alert when he comes; truly I tell you, he will fasten his belt and have them sit down to eat, and he will come and serve them. 38 If he comes during the middle of the night, or near dawn, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.

39 “But know this: if the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. 40 You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour.”
