Dr. Jonathan Sloan gives a sermon about our togetherness as fellow believers in the body of Christ, based on Ephesians 4:15-16 (link).
*Call to Worship
We enter church this morning as individuals;
but as we gather, we become one.
One body, one mind, one spirit;
woven together with Jesus as our head.
We come today to be united in something larger than ourselves, a fellowship of believers, striving to be examples of Christ’s love, as we grow in faith.
Let us worship God!
*Prayer of Confession
Dear Lord, we are often overwhelmed in life, we feel so small in the midst of great problems, large obstacles and unending confusion. We fear standing against the masses and we keep silent when we should be shouting out Your Word. Help us to see ourselves as part of a whole; as one of many; as an extension of You. Help us be willing to speak truth and to stand tall against even the most formidable foe. Help us to always remember that we are never alone when we walk the path You have chosen and share the message You have put on our lips…
*Assurance of Pardon
Jesus did not walk the road to Calvary alone; He was leading His followers to salvation, to mercy and forgiveness. He continues to lead us as we lead others.
Thanks be to God!
Ephesians 4:15-16 (NRSV)
15 But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body’s growth in building itself up in love.
