Call to Worship AJ Baratta
Leader: We gather today as people who have been gifted by God.
People: Gifted with talents to help us fulfill a purpose in our lives.
Leader: We are challenged to use our gifts every day, in many ways;
People: to become a servant of the Lord and an example of strength in
action.
Leader: A shaker of salt unopened on a shelf cannot be appreciated; it is
not functional; it cannot fulfill its purpose. We are to use the gifts of God,
for if unused, they will become ineffective.
ALL: Let us worship God!
*Hymn “Build Your Kingdom Here” Rend Collective
*Prayer of Confession (Unison)
Dear Lord, we live our lives doing what we want to do, not what we are capable of doing. We often have a “stop while we are ahead” philosophy, fearing that we won’t be as effective the next time; or that we will fail, and not be appreciated. We lean on our own understandings instead of looking to You for knowledge and guidance. When doubts prevent us from being used as we are intended, help us to recognize and be confident in our abilities. Give us the courage to step forward time and time again, despite our worries that we have been worn down and weakened. Remind us that we are the salt of the earth, and we are as strong as He who has refined us… (Silent time of prayer)
*Assurance of Pardon
Leader: Even when we lose ourselves in the sin and confusion of the world, God
gives us the strength to change. God’s mercy and forgiveness enable us
to be both used and useful.
ALL: Thanks be to God!
*The Gloria Patri – Hymn Tune, 581
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Beatitudes
5 When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. 2 Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5 “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Salt and Light
13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. 15 No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

Prayers of the People and The Lord’s Prayer (Unison)
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
