Who We Are: Proclaimers

April 14, 2019 Rev. Dr. Jennifer Blake Easter, Good News, Palm Sunday, Sharing Who We Are

Dr. Jennifer Blake gives a message about our response to the the Good News, that we are to proclaim it to others. Luke 19:28-40

For Palm Sunday we have shared more than just the sermon so you can worship more richly with us just as those who welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem (a few parts are cut so it doesn’t follow the order of the bulletin).
The message starts around 18 minutes.

Leader:     We gather this morning to praise the Lord;

People:    glorifying Him and proclaiming Jesus the Son of God!

Leader:     We wave our palms and shout Hosanna;

People:    declaring to all who will hear, He is the Messiah.

Leader:     When Jesus entered Jerusalem, He was met with cries of elation and

tears of joy from all who recognized His power.  Let us always welcome

the Lord, our God, with unending celebration.

ALL:         Hosanna, Hosanna!

*Prayer of Confession (Unison)

Dear Lord, we claim to love You above all others, while excluding You from our lives.  We boast that we are not ashamed of the Gospel, but do so in whispers and silent prayers.  We boldly proclaim Your authority, but only to those we are certain will agree.  Help us to be courageous and fearless in our praise.  Let our faithful voices rise above the uncertainty of the world.  Let our confidence in You clearly and loudly resound in our lives…(Silent time of prayer)

*Assurance of Pardon

Leader:     God hears our pleas for forgiveness even when we are silenced by fear.

God grants us mercy and gives us hope.  Shout to the Lord, for He is good

and His mercy endures forever.

      ALL:          Thanks be to God!

* The Gloria Patri – Hymn Tune, 581

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen.

Message            “Who We Are:  Proclaimers”        Dr. Jennifer Blake

Luke 19:28-40

Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem
28 After he had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

29 When he had come near Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples, 30 saying, “Go into the village ahead of you, and as you enter it you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say this, ‘The Lord needs it.’” 32 So those who were sent departed and found it as he had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 They said, “The Lord needs it.” 35 Then they brought it to Jesus; and after throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. 36 As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. 37 As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, 38 saying,

“Blessed is the king
who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven,
and glory in the highest heaven!”

39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, order your disciples to stop.” 40 He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.”
